Colorado Arts Education
Summit Saturday, June 16, 2007

Over 30 teams, comprised of parents, teachers, administrators and elected officials from schools and districts across Colorado, attended a one day Colorado Arts Education Summit, hosted in Denver by Colorado Council on the Arts and Denver Office of Cultural Affairs. The Summit capitalized on new opportunities created by strong state and city leadership, concerns about our educational competitiveness and growing grassroots activism to launch concrete actions ensuring that every Colorado student receives a quality education in the arts. Experiential labs, educational presentations, an inspiring keynote address, resource guides and advocacy toolkits, coaching and facilitated discussion culminated in tangible action plans by participant teams. On-going financial and tactical support will sustain team efforts beyond the Colorado Arts Education Summit.

Summit Goals:

  • Participants will share and be able to articulate an arts & creative learning vision - the essential role of arts experiences and creative learning to a balanced, effective, competitive education.
  • Participants will endorse and unify around implementation of Colorado Arts Learning Task Force's policy recommendations.
  • Participants will be mobilized in teams and equipped to effectively promote arts education in their school and district.
